Prayer for Brazil

God of peace, we ask that you would cover the people of Brazil with your shalom

That you would comfort hearts in anguish

That you would heal the sick, in body and in mind

That you would turn the hearts of fathers to their children

And brothers to their sisters

God of justice, we ask that you would move on the collective conscience

That you would convict leaders for abandoning their people

That you would embrace the victims of violence

That you would abolish fear in the children of Brazil

And the fear that drives their parents

God of change, we ask that you would raise up a leader

In the spirit of the nonviolent protestors of the past

In the power of great men and women of peaceful change

With the influence of the Kings and Gandhis and Teresas

And of Jesus, our Prince of Peace

May swords be turned to plowshares

May power be used to serve the least of these

May Your Kingdom come and Your will be done

In this ravaged nation as in Heaven
